Sex and Age Effects on Monk Parakeet Home-Range Variation in the Urban Habitat

چکیده
Home-range size is a key aspect of space-use, and variation in home-range structure may have profound consequences for the potential impact damage control strategies invasive species. However, knowledge on naturalized parrot species very limited. The aim this study was to quantify patterns according sex age monk parakeet Myiopsitta monachus, an Europe. Mean kernel 12.4 ± 1.22 ha (range 1.7–74.1 ha; N = 73 birds). Juveniles had larger than adults, but sexes did not differ size. mean maximum distance moved by parakeets 727 37.0 m (range: 150–1581 m), it dependent either or birds. Having small home range one conditions feasible eradication species; hence, urban that we report here good news pest managers. can limit effectiveness culling operations with traps feeders contraceptives poison, other alternatives, such as funnel nets traps, should be used.

Heavy flooding effects on home range and habitat selection
The Iberian hare Lepus granatensis is a common and abundant species throughout the Iberian Peninsula; however, studies documenting its ecology are scarce. Between August 1996 and September 1997, after a long drought, we studied the effects of a widespread flood on the Iberian hare ecology in ecotone pastures of Doñana National Park. Hares were captured using vertical nets through part of 1996 a...
متن کاملVocal tract articulation revisited: the case of the monk parakeet.
Birdsong and human speech share many features with respect to vocal learning and development. However, the vocal production mechanisms have long been considered to be distinct. The vocal organ of songbirds is more complex than the human larynx, leading to the hypothesis that vocal variation in birdsong originates mainly at the sound source, while in humans it is primarily due to vocal tract fil...

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...
Home-range use patterns and movements of the Siberian flying squirrel in urban forests: Effects of habitat composition and connectivity.
BACKGROUND Urbanization causes modification, fragmentation and loss of native habitats. Such landscape changes threaten many arboreal and gliding mammals by limiting their movements through treeless parts of a landscape and by making the landscape surrounding suitable habitat patches more inhospitable. Here, we investigate the effects of landscape structure and habitat availability on the home-...
